HOW TO STYLE OUR NEW BAGGY FITS IN A BIG WAY (LITERALLY)

This season we’re here to suggest something radical: Buy almost everything too big. Or, two big, rather. As in two sizes up from your normal size. Clever, right?

If you order your true size in our new baggy fits for her, you’ll get a cute, slightly oversized situation. Remember they’re supposed to be worn lower and looser than you might be used to. No lying on your bed to zip or jumping up and down to get these babies up. But we’re asking you to consider going big-big. Again, “two big,” if you will. (Please let us have this.)

Will you look like a frumpy hot mess? No, you won’t. Because after the next three and a half minutes of reading, you’ll know how to harness the power of proportions—how to mix the XL with the XS to create an overall effect that’s XA and XF (extra awesome, extra flattering). It’s fun. It’s comfortable. It’s—dare we say—sexy?

“THERE’S SOMETHING ABOUT THESE LOOSER FITS—SOME MYSTERY, ATTITUDE, DRAMA—THAT MAKES THEM VERY APPEALING.”

—Jill Guenza, Vice President Women’s Design

“I mean, you wear any pair of jeans with confidence, you’re going to look amazing,” says Vice President of Women’s Design Jill Guenza. “But there’s something about these looser fits—some mystery, attitude, drama—that makes them very appealing.”

So twice the looseness should mean twice the appeal, no? See for yourself. Below, three looks with tips on how to up your size to up your style.

1) GO TO GREAT LENGTHS FEAT. THE BAGGY BOOTCUT

It’s still possible to look long and lean in oversized fits. The trick is getting your lengths right. For your top, think waistband-grazing or above. Any longer ventures into schlubby territory. This polo is a boxier shape—with horizontal stripes even! But because it’s cropped and juxtaposed with the vertical lines of an upsized trench, it works.

Now let’s talk shoes: “Bootcut” doesn’t mean you gotta wear a boot. We love the surprising twist of chunky athletic sneakers to add some “prep” to your step. Plus, that extra heft balances out the leg fullness (which is more exaggerated than our other bootcuts, and especially so when sized up). You want a shoe that can stand up to that leg opening.

2) SHOW YOUR RANGE FEAT. THE XL FLOOD

The XL Flood is the biggest, lowest (“XL" stands for “extra low’), baggiest pair of our baggy bunch. So how fun to pair it with a super-fitted number up top. (Note: we took scissors and further cropped this crop top—your friendly reminder that clothes are yours to make your own.)

A supersized Western Shirt (also two big) perfectly offsets the teeny-tiny crop and plays nicely in the easy, tonal palette created by the jeans and accessories. Denim washes don't have to line up exactly when you're wearing a spectrum like this.

The end result is giving '90s R&B group realness. And that peekaboo moment with boxer briefs? It's everything.

3) KNOW THAT POLISHED IS POSSIBLE FEAT. THE BAGGY DAD

That’s right. Sophisticated elegance is on the table, even in these big ol’ fits. You’ll pull it off with dark wash denim, a crisp button-up and a sleek pair of loafers. Each of these feels distinctly put-together, and the hard lines created by the square-toe loafers and stark contrasting colors are *chef’s kiss.*

Casualize the ensemble with a cropped hoodie that follows our above-mentioned advice to give you a waist. Pro tip: You want onlookers to be able to imagine where your belly button is. If body-con or bare skin isn’t your thing, this is an alternatively fresh and modern way to create a flattering silhouette.

4) REMEMBER THE ONLY RULE IS THERE ARE NO RULES

The shirt here is actually our XS Trucker Jacket worn true to size. The two-big Sherpa Trucker layered on top isn’t intended to be reversible, but why not? The XL Flood truly puddles, so we decided sometimes rainboots are just too cute to reserve for crummy weather.

Being unconventional with pieces creates a playful versatility to them. We’ll give you style tips all day long, but the goal is always to inspire—never infringe—on your own creativity and self-expression. Fashion is maybe the one game in which those not playing by the rules are most deserving of a win. So you do you. And forget limitations.

You heard it here first: there’s no such thing as “too big” anymore.
